A fantastic opportunity to meet the winemaker

Situated on the banks of Loch Long, one of the magnificent sea lochs of Scotland, Knockderry House is a fabulous 4 star 2 AA Rosette hotel. With a reputation for excellent food and drink, it is no surprise that our bi-annual Wine Lovers dinners are extremely popular. We believe that good food should be matched with equally good wine, so we spend a long time crafting our wine list with wines that compliment our seasonal and local Scottish produce.

Part of our wine list development often includes meeting with wine producers to discuss the stories behind the wines and our favourite part – a tutored tasting with the producer themselves to better understand the product. We love passing this information on to our guests, but then we realised we could share this experience!

Tutored Tasting from Torreon de Paredes

We are holding a tutored tasting with one of our favourite wine producers, Torreon de Paredes and a three course supper afterwards. The grapes for one of our favourite wines by the glass, the Reserva Privada Cabernet Sauvignon, are expertly hand-picked and matured in new French oak barrels. The attention to detail that goes into making the wine is evident in every sip, with notes of vanilla, leather and dried plum aromas. The Torreon de Paredes ethos is simple; making excellent wine must begin with excellent grapes, and they remain one of the few wine makers in Chile that have never bought grapes from elsewhere. Don Amado Paredes Cárdenas established the winery in 1979 and his legacy lives on through his sons Javier and Álvaro.

TDP wine

Chilean wines began to grow in popularity abroad in the latter half of the 20th century, when foreign investment altered the market from a predominantly domestic industry to one that garnered greater interest from consumers abroad. Chile is probably best known for its Carménère, a grape variety that ceased to exist in Europe after the outbreak of phylloxera in 1867. Thanks to the protective barrier of the Andes and the isolated location of Chile, the grape variety continued to thrive.

Be part of our Tutored Tasting at Knockderry Country House

We are excited to be running a tutored tasting with such a fantastic producer, and to be able to offer guests the opportunity to taste up to five wines with canapes and listen to Javier discuss the challenges and joys of running a winery.

Tickets for the tutored tasting on 16th March 2017 are £35, which includes a light supper afterwards.  To stay over why not check out our room availability.  Please call us on 01436842283 and our team would be happy to help
