Visit Scotland with me and enjoy lunch by the loch followed by a whisky tour and tasting at Glengoyne whisky distillery.

If you are visiting Scotland and looking for a lovely day out to experience wonderful scenery, excellent food and enjoy some whisky, then I have the perfect private bespoke tour from Edinburgh for you.

Depending on where I collect you we will make different detours to view some of Scotland’s historical sites. We may well have an option to build in a morning visit to Stirling Castle, Linlithgow Palace or perhaps The Kelpies.

Around midday, we will stop for lunch at Scotland’s best casual dining restaurant, which was awarded the title by Visit Scotland Scottish Thistle Awards. We recently visited for lunch and you can read our review on our blog. There are lots of delicious options available on the menu but if fish is your preference you can dine on Cullen Skink, Loch Venachar Trout or enjoy a smoked fish platter. You can also sample some local beer from both Harviestoun and Fallen Breweries both of which appear on the menu.

Glengoyne Distillery – A visit to one of Scotland’s most picturesque distilleries

Glengoyne Distillery

Glengoyne has been in operation since 1833 and being independently owned has complete control over their production methods. Glengoyne has six guiding principles rooted in nearly 200 years of their craft, along with an unwavering commitment to the environment and is a gathering of like-minded people. They believe this to be the Glengoyne Way.

Duits it’s location on the Highland Line the distillery is unique making whisky in the Highlands and then allowing it to mature just across the road in the Lowlands.

The Sunday Times newspaper voted Glengoyne Distillery whisky tours the best in Scotland and I can arrange a suitable tour of the distillery for you. All the tours available are detailed below along with timescales and cost.

After your distillery tour and a few drams, we will make our way back to your accommodation or cruise ship terminal.

Glengoyne whisky tours available at the distillery:

Glengoyne Tour (45 min tour) – £8.50 per person
The definitive tour round the place where it all happens; slowly. Enjoy a Glengoyne 12 Year Old, overlooking the waterfall and glen. You will witness men doing very little as they nurse the spirit through their swan-necked copper beasts. At Glengoyne, the clocks have no hands.

Wee Tasting Tour (1 hour tour) – £11.00 per person
Just like the Glengoyne tour above but with an additional tasting of Glengoyne 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Whisky. Two great drams and an hour of fun.

The Gold Medal Parade (1 hour tour) – £22.50 per person
A distillery tour including tastings of their 12 Year Old, Cask Strength, 18 Year Old and 21 Year Old, the four Glengoyne’s awarded seven Gold Medals at the last two industry “Oscars” – The International Wine and Spirit Competition and The San Francisco World Spirits Competition. You can taste for yourself what all the fuss is about!

Whisky and Chocolate Matching (1.5 hours tour) – £22.50 per person
A delicious insight into what happens when world class Single Malt Whisky and chocolate collide. Enjoy a dram of 12 Year Old and all the fun of the Glengoyne tour, followed by a unique whisky and chocolate experience. Glengoyne have paired their luscious 15 Year Old and multi award winning 21 Year Old Malt with four handmade Nucoco chocolates to create a memorable sensory experience.

Malt Master Tour (1.75 hours tour) – £55.00 per person
Create your very own, unique Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This unique experience lets you create your Glengoyne, the way you want it. After a tasting of Glengoyne 12 Year Old and an in-depth distillery tour, it’s off to the Sample Room to assume the role of Honorary Malt Master. Taste 10ml samples from five very different Glengoyne 1997 casks and experience for yourself the effects that oak species, cask manufacture and previous fill have on the spirit, before constructing your own unique Cask Strength, Un-Chill filtered Glengoyne 17 Year Old. Leave the distillery with a spring in your step, a 200ml bottling of your own one off creation and a clearer understanding of the crucial role our Malt Master plays in making Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Whisky. Unavailable elsewhere.

No. 1 Warehouse Tour: (2 Hour Tour) – £75.00 per person
Wield your dug. Dip two casks. Drink the drams. Bottle your favourite. After enjoying a Glengoyne Cask Strength whilst gazing over their waterfall and an in-depth distillery tour, you will enter the hallowed No. 1 Warehouse, armed with your dipping dug. So called because they were “man’s best friend”, the dug was once used by the wily warehouseman to dip casks surreptitiously. Plunge in your dug, pull two healthy drams from a 1st Fill Sherry cask and a 1st Fill Bourbon barrel and retire to a safe haven for leisurely oral analysis. Then for the tricky bit – it’s back to No1 Warehouse to select which cask from which to draw enough to fill your 200ml bottle, which is included in the price of the tour.

Each tour includes a £5 money off voucher, redeemable against any Glengoyne 70cl.

Our tour ends back at your accommodation, or alternatively, we can drop you off in Edinburgh to enjoy further drams or dinner.

Lunch, Coffees and entry to Glengoyne are not included in the tour price.

Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this tour in any more detail or go ahead and book online to reserve your tour date.

If you only have a short timescale available we may still be able to help you experience the very best Scotland has to offer. It’s always worth asking!

Recent feedback our “Visit Scotland in Miniature Tour” from a guest who only had a few hours to enjoy the best of Scotland:

Hi Donnie,
Just short note to say a big thank you for arranging an excellent tour of your beautiful countryside and the lunch in a picturesque place. Although it was a very short and fast tour we did managed to get an insight into whisky making tradition which Scotland is so famous. All in all it was a unique experience for me and my family, and ideal way to start another year for me.
Many thanks for your kindness and excellent service.
With best wishes
