Food loving racegoers are set to become galloping gourmets, with the Edinburgh Cup meeting at Musselburgh Racecourse promising to be the tastiest yet.

Known as the ‘foodie event’ of the Scottish racing season, top chefs from catering experts Heritage Portfolio have created a locally inspired menu to tickle the taste buds of lucky attendees.

One of the Scottish themed menu, which will be available in the Queens Stand, includes a variety of locally sourced products, including Simon Howie haggis and slow cooked Glen Isla Estate venison. Other delights include a classic Edinburgh Fog and Dunsyre blue parfait dessert, with a selection of Scottish cheeses and traditional tablet to top it all off.

Since Edinburgh is now recognised as the gin capital of the UK and to add to the local flavour, racegoers will also enjoy a selection of Edinburgh Gin’s classic cocktails, all specially created for the Edinburgh Cup event.

Craig Bonner, General Manager and Company Mixologist at Heritage Portfolio Limited, said: “This is a great opportunity for the catering and hospitality team here at Musselburgh to really shine.

“Food and drink is a huge part of the experience at the racecourse, but never more so than at the Edinburgh Cup, which has developed a reputation as a real foodies’ event.

“Our team love challenging themselves and we’re proud of the menu we’ve come up with. It is inventive, with a fantastic range of flavours, all with a nod to the traditional, yet often with a special twist.

“What is particularly pleasing is that the entire menu has been put together with as much locally-sourced produce as possible, including potatoes grown a few miles away in the Pentland hills, to the finest Scottish haggis, the leeks and asparagus are from East Lothian whilst the salmon is also caught locally and the lobster is from Newhaven.

“Even more pleasing is the link up with Edinburgh Gin (sponsors of our feature race – The Edinburgh Gin Edinburgh Cup) which has allowed us to get really creative with a range of drinks and cocktails to complement each course. We’re sure our guests are going to love it.”

Available in the Edinburgh Cup Club Marquee and Pommery Champagne Bar, attendees can choose from a selection of gin favourites. From the Edinburgh Rambler and Edinburgh Gin Fizz to the Scottish Tom Collins and the Edinburgh Cup Club Signature, the cocktails contain a variety of fizzes and flavours to suit every liquor loving racegoer.

Sarah Montgomery, Senior Operations and Commercial Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “The Edinburgh Cup is one of our most prestigious race days and our biggest foodie event, so we are delighted with the way Heritage Portfolio has risen to the challenge.

“They have created a menu focused on using local produce, reflecting the best that Scotland has to offer, with plenty of interesting and fun flavours to reflect the fact that this is all about having a great day out.

“As our catering partners for many years, we know exactly how good the Heritage Portfolio team are and they have done us proud. There is a real treat in store for our guests who’ll also be enjoying a day of top class racing.”

Musselburgh Racecourse is proud of how the Edinburgh Cup brings colour to the capital, attracting leading horses, trainers and jockeys from across the UK and offering a programme packed full of quality racing with a total prize fund of £145,000.
