Edinburgh welcomed an elegant new wine bar last week with the unveiling of il Calice at 4 Picardy Place. The ground floor bar, now open to the public, is the first stage in the renovation of the listed Georgian townhouse.
Serving an exclusive selection of wines, sourced by wine-importer owners father and son Ronnie and Kyle Reid, il Calice is a stylish addition to the capital’s burgeoning enoteca scene.
Ronnie commented: “Wine is very much the focus at il Calice and we want our customers to be given the opportunity to explore the many wonderful vintages we import from Italy, as well as others we have hand-picked from around the globe.”
il Calice also offers a well-edited cocktail list of modern classics, mixed and poured to perfection.

Ronnie continued: “We are currently developing our menu of Italian-inspired dishes with our enthusiastic young chef from Venice, and we look forward to launching the menu in the coming days. These small sharing plates are designed to enhance il Calice’s relaxed, convivial environment.”
In October, a second bar will be introduced on the first floor, as well as the provision of a private bar and meeting room on the lower ground floor.
Four luxurious bedroom suites on both the upper floors of the building are due to open later this month
