A culinary journey around the comforting flavours of Scotland’s rich autumn harvest and cocktail masterclasses that delve into the secrets of the perfect tipple have been unveiled by Edinburgh’s stylish Printing Press Bar & Kitchen.

While for the festive season, there’s the chance to celebrate and indulge, with the classic flavours of Christmas wrapped up with a modern, innovative twist.
There’s even a special gift for Christmas celebration early birds – the chance to receive a £50 Printing Press Bar & Kitchen gift voucher when a party of ten or more is booked before 31 October, 2018*.

Get the party started at one of the Printing Press Bar & Kitchen’s cocktail masterclasses – an unmissable chance to journey through the myriad of flavours and intricate techniques that combine to make an unforgettable cocktail, guided by the Printing Press Bar & Kitchen’s expert bartenders.
Step behind the bar to shake up a favourite cocktail with friends, compare creations with colleagues, or take a whistlestop tour through the history of gin or whisky at a mini masterclass.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, executive chef Colin Fleming and Kris Currie, head chef along-with their team have embarked upon a journey around Scotland’s unrivalled natural larder, and combined seasonal ingredients with innovative flair to create autumnal flavours that warm and comfort.

Starters include hand-dived Orkney scallops served with orange-braised endive, squid ink sauce; fig and red pepper tart presented with Crowdie and laced with mustard vinaigrette; Cumbrae oyster, red wine vinegar and shallots; flavour-packed Wellington Farm pork rillettes, apple and sourdough; and smoked Peterhead haddock fishcake with bisque butter sauce.

Main courses celebrate the riches of the farm, land and sea, from seaweed-grilled Scrabster cod, Shetland mussel and clam gratin and sea herbs to roast corn-fed chicken, braised leg pastilla, almond and apricot Israeli couscous; a whole roast plaice, capers and brown butter to Huntingdon Farm Barnsley lamb chop, lamb faggot, dauphinoise and spinach.

Alongside sit old favourites with a special twist: succulent Tweed Valley beef burger, cheese, bun and chips; and fish tucked inside a crisp craft beer batter served with – of course – chips and minted peas. From the Josper Grill comes a selection of certified, grass-fed Tweed Valley Scotch beef steaks served with a choice of béarnaise or peppercorn sauce, spiced butter or bone marrow gravy.

Deliciously indulgent puddings pay homage to the season’s fruit harvest: honey and thyme-roasted plum accompanied by chocolate custard, cinnamon granola and honeycomb ice cream; peach and raspberry granita comes with yoghurt and the wonder that is ruby chocolate; while pear and almond tart fine is served with a dollop of smooth crème frâiche.

The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen’s festive lunches and dinners are served from 26 November to 24 December, while a luxurious Christmas Day menu (£85) features a celebratory glass of Prosecco, delightful amuse bouche and three sublime courses.

Two-course festive lunches are served Sunday to Thursday (£24.95), and three-courses (£29.95) are available seven days, or gather friends, family or colleagues for executive chef Colin Fleming’s inspired festive dinner menu (£36), available from 4.30pm – 9.45pm. Dishes include classic Norfolk bronze turkey with trimmings alongside innovative new classics such as Ale-braised Tweed Valley beef featherblade served with king oyster mushrooms and pomme puree, and chard cod accompanied by butter beans, morteau sausage, young broccoli, mussels and saffron.

Cocktails

The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen new and favourite cocktails celebrate Scotland’s literary heritage and combine a sense of fun with high drama. Look out for the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, topped with a delicate spun-sugar cage, and for those who simply can’t choose, a new cocktail tree features nine cocktails perfectly perched on its branches – a unique chance to savour a selection of the Printing Press Bar & Kitchen’s favourite tipples.

For tantalising delights, the Editor’s cocktail bar and champagne selection Bar is a sophisticated retreat, perfect as the nights draw in and the festive season approaches.

Our new menus and events bring combine sophistication with good times – whether it’s a laid-back lunch or a fun cocktail session, sophisticated evening dining or a private get-together at The Editor’s Cocktail Bar.

The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen is part of the Principal Edinburgh George Street. A La Carte menus are available all week. Breakfast (£15.95) is served Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 10am, and at weekends from 7am t0 10.30am.

The set lunch menu is offered from Monday to Thursday 12 noon to 6.30pm, with two courses for £15 and three courses for £21. The Principal’s popular roast is served every Sunday from 12 noon to 5pm and includes a choice of roast or vegetarian option, priced at £22.50 for two courses. Children’s meals are half price and under-fours dine free.
