Guy Grieve and Tom Lewis join forces in George Square Gardens for Edinburgh Food Festival

Two of Scotland’s top food insiders have teamed up with Edinburgh Food Festival to challenge budding chefs to a cook-off in the famous Spiegeltent Palais Du Variété.

Ready Steady Chef, a fusion of the much-loved Ready Steady Cook and MasterChef television show, is debuting at the Edinburgh Food Festival. Not only is the joint title of ‘Edinburgh’s Top Cook’ up for grabs, but also two VIP passes to all Assembly Festival Fringe shows will be awarded to the winners.

Award-winning Chef Tom Lewis and Ethical Shellfish Company Founder and scallop diver Guy Grieve are set to battle it out in the Spiegeltent kitchen. But with a twist on the original Ready Steady Cook, they each select two members of the audience to cook on their behalf.

Two heats take place on Sunday 31st July in Assembly’s George Square Gardens, and will determine the shows finalists for the grand finale that evening.

With £20 to spend and only 20 minutes to shop, contestants must race to buy their ingredients. Returning to the famous tent, each team will have 20 minutes to cook their winning dish, mentored by either Tom or Guy. Winners will be chosen in true Ready Steady Cook fashion by the audience.

Chef Tom Lewis of Monachyle Mhor, said of the show:

“I’m looking forward to celebrating the flavours of Scotland from the finest selection of food producers and of course competing against Guy, it should be great fun especially with the audience getting involved!”

Keeping the audience entertained while the contestants are away, Tom and Guy will perform a cookery demonstration with Guy’s hand-dived scallops from the Isle of Mull, and Scottish oysters and langoustines.

Naturally competitive, brilliantly rebellious and working out of their comfort zones, the hosts are sure to keep audiences amused and bemused throughout.

Ready Steady Chef is part of Assembly’s Edinburgh Food Festival. Running from Wednesday 27th – Sunday 31st July the festival is a celebration of Scotland’s quality food and drink. Stallholders are set to fill the George Square Gardens, while a programme of food talks and high-energy ticketed entertainment will take place over the course of the five days.
