The Golf Inn in Gullane is celebrating after being named Best Pub in East Lothian and will now compete for the title of Best Pub in Scotland at the National Pub & Bar Awards later this month.
Organised by nationally acclaimed Pub & Bar Magazine, the Awards honour the best pubs from each county across the UK. A total of 94 pubs have been selected as the best in their area and will now have the chance to be named the best in their region. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 24th May.
Headed up by Head Chef Derek Johnstone, winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2008, The Golf Inn has been described as the best kept secret in Gullane.
Offering local, seasonal and sustainable dishes in the restaurant and a haven of luxury in the bar by an open fire, The Golf Inn is the perfect coastal retreat.
Welcoming the announcement, Derek said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been named as the Best Pub in East Lothian and look forward to the national final in May.
“At the Golf Inn we have a very simple ethos, the welcome will always be warm, the food will always be fresh and delicious and the atmosphere relaxed. To be named the best pub in our county is a fantastic validation of this and to be recognised nationally as the best pub in Scotland would just be the icing on the cake.
“We’re a very hard-working team here at The Golf Inn and we certainly wouldn’t have got this far without the great bunch of people working here so this award is thoroughly well-deserved on their part.”
The Golf Inn has two separate bar areas to suit all occasions, Niblick Bar which offers a relaxing atmosphere for enjoying a beverage beside an open fire or a light bite off the Bar Classic Menu. Niblick Bar has range of locally-sourced beverages, including a variety of carefully produced cask ales. The Golf Inn rotates a weekly changing list of Scottish guest ales and offers a selection of fine wines, single malts.
A separate area, Jack’s Bar has become a firm favourite with visitors since opening in 2014. Named after Jack Nicklaus, who won his first ever major at Muirfield in 1966, Jack’s Bar is perfect for sports fans and is equipped with the 10-foot screen, pool table and dart board available.
Pub & Bar magazine’s internal judging panel take a number of aspects into consideration when deciding the winners, including service, product ranges, design and entertainment.
