Private guided day tour to Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands with dramatic landscapes, shimmering lochs, awesome mountains and sweeping glens.
If you are visiting Edinburgh and would like to visit Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands but are short of time then this private day tour is ideal for you. We will visit Glencoe and the Highlands and en route stop for a delicious lunch on the banks of Loch Leven. I absolutely love this tour as I grew up in the Glencoe and Loch Leven area. This tour takes the Highlander from the city back to the Highlands and I can’t wait to share my homeland with you.
What’s the route?
My private guided day tour leaves Edinburgh in the morning (ideally around 8.30am) and head north via Stirling towards the Trossachs National Park. On our way north we will pass the Forth Bridges, The Kelpies, Stirling Castle and Doune Castle before arriving in Callander in the heart of the national park.
We can take time to stop for morning coffee at one of the lovely coffee shops on our way, and of course say hello to two of Callanders most famous highland cow residents!
After Callander we pass Balquhidder, home of Rob Roy’s grave before driving through Glen Ogle and onwards to Tyndrum.
A visit to the Highlands is never complete without a wee stop at The Green Well Shop where you can browse their excellent selection of Scottish whisky, gins and craft beers.
Heading through Glencoe we can take some time to stop and enjoy the stunning landscape and take a slight detour into Glen Etive. This is one of Scotland’s most beautiful glens and a true wilderness area. This drive will take us past the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor, The Great Shepherd of Etive and here we will hopefully spot some red deer.

As we travel through Glencoe or Glen of Weeping as it’s known following the Massacre on 13th February 1692, we can take time to visit the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre or the Glencoe Folk Museum depending on your preference.
What about the seafood lunch?
We will stop for lunch at Loch Leven Seafood Cafe on the shores of Loch Leven. The restaurant is situated in one of the most picturesque places in Scotland with unspoilt mountain scenery all around and the panoramic windows look over Loch Leven towards the Pap of Glencoe.
Seafood is the restaurants speciality and with their shellfish platter the star of the show. The menu is quite extensive so there is usually something to suit everyone’s taste.

The restaurants own fishing boats catch the fish and seafood locally and then store it in tanks next to the cafe with seawater continuously being pumped from the loch to the tanks. This allows the chefs to provide some of the freshest fish and shellfish you will find in Scotland. If you prefer an alternative lunch then this can be arranged.
After lunch we continue our travels around Loch Leven and head back through Glencoe finishing your private day tour back in Edinburgh.
Admission Fees, coffee, lunch or dinner costs are not included in our tour price.
