Tamdhu Batch Strength named Speyside Malt of the Year

The team at Tamdhu Single Malt Scotch Whisky is celebrating after its Batch Strength expression was awarded Speyside Single Malt of the Year at the 22nd Annual Whisky Advocate Awards on Friday (11 December).

Whisky Advocate (formerly Malt Advocate), America’s leading whisky magazine, announces its annual award winners one day at a time on its website’s blog.

Commenting on the award, Neil Boyd, Commercial Director of Malts for Ian Macleod Distillers (owners of Tamdhu), said, “We’re delighted that the quality of our Tamdhu Batch Strength has been recognised with such a prestigious award from Whisky Advocate.
“We’re exceptionally proud of our sherry-matured whisky and being named Speyside Single Malt of the Year by America’s leading whisky publication gives us strong validation that our high strength, special edition Batch Strength is well appreciated internationally.”

Tamdhu Batch Strength is bottled un-chillfiltered at natural colour and high strength. The first of its kind from Tamdhu, the Batch Strength expression remains true to the Victorian optimism of the brand’s founders, upholding their passion to create only the finest single malt, being matured exclusively in sherry oak casks.

With a nose of red berries, sultanas and creamy vanilla, Tamdhu Batch Strength develops with a fantastically rounded taste of sherry oak, spice and dried fruits, before apricot, orange and crème brûlée come to the fore. On the finish, Tamdhu Batch Strength has a rich biscuity, malty flavour with marmalade and a lingering fruitiness.
Tamdhu is owned by one of Scotland’s leading, independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. Tamdhu Distillery was born on the banks of the River Spey in 1897 – an era when anything seemed possible.
